Project PoCo

In the three-year PoCo project, SRAL is training three Post-Master restorers to become specialists in Polychrome Conservation. Despite the presence of various important collections of (medieval) polychrome sculpture in monumental buildings, churches, some museums, and at the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands, the specialization of polychrome conservation is not offered in an academic program.

SRAL has taken the initiative to collaborate with several (inter)national specialists in polychrome restoration and conservation to establish a one-time training program to further specialize three young conservators in polychrome conservation after their master's degrees.

We are seeking three junior specialists who will work together in the PoCo project. Masters with a special interest in polychrome, stratigraphy, and (medieval) painted sculpture and wooden art objects are encouraged to apply. The appointment is for three years.

Sint Servaas is going back home

Ingeborg Kroon is a metal conservator who has restored the bust of Saint Servatius. In the program 'Zin in morgen,' she shares her experiences regarding the conservation treatment of the ancient reliquary and what it feels like to work on such a remarkable object. The relic, the skull of Saint Servatius, is housed within the metal bust and can be viewed through a peephole beneath the mitre.
It is an object that represents faith for many people and holds a significant place in the treasury of the Sint-Servaas Basilica.

On April 22nd, the bust will return to this location. John Schilder, a member of the Saint Servatius Carriers Guild, discusses the importance of the bust for the community in the documentary and eagerly anticipates its return.
