Research and advice

Research conducted by SRAL aims to assess the condition, aging, and restoration history of an object, enabling the proposal of well-informed treatment plans. Guidance on preventive conservation is provided, covering aspects such as climate control, transportation and handling, depot design, and emergency response in case of calamities. Extensive expertise allows for tackling complex issues with a comprehensive and integrated approach.

 SRAL has various facilities to carry out research on works of art. From non-invasive methods such as imaging with different light sources to microscopic paint analysis. Part of the Historic Interior specialisation is carrying out colour historical research according to ERM guidelines.


SRAL can inventory and assess entire collections, as well as advise on loan, art transport. We can help draw up a collection assistance plan and offer first aid in case of calamities.
