About us
Our mission is to ensure the preservation of works of art and heritage through implementation, advice, and education, so that they are preserved for future generations. In doing so, we fulfill an important social responsibility.

Restoration specialists
SRAL is a dynamic conservation studio with a multidisciplinary team of conservators who specialize in various fields, including polychromed sculptures, paintings on different supports, modern art, murals, and historical interior spaces.
Over the past 35 years, we have gained extensive experience in a wide range of projects, from individual paintings to comprehensive interior restorations. Our diverse disciplines reinforce and complement each other, enabling us to provide a comprehensive and integrated approach.
Through our numerous practical projects, we continually encounter concrete issues. SRAL excels in connecting these issues with theoretical knowledge and research, allowing us to develop and implement innovative solutions.
Our clients and partners
SRAL carries out assignments for a diverse group of clients throughout the Netherlands and beyond.
Our clients include government agencies, museums, businesses and private individuals.

Limburg heritage
SRAL and Coöperatie Erfgoed Limburg (CEL) work closely together to discuss provincial heritage policy and align it with the needs of heritage professionals in Limburg. CEL is a partnership of heritage institutions, museums, and other collection-managing institutions in Limburg, focused on the preservation, promotion, and development of cultural heritage in the region. CEL forms various working groups that deal with different aspects of heritage preservation and promotion, such as organizing events and conducting research.
A recurring activity is the heritage weekend, during which various heritage institutions open their doors to the public and special events are organized to highlight Limburg's rich history and culture.

Bonnefanten
The Bonnefanten Museum has a special space: the SRAL Open Studio. Here, visitors can follow the extensive restoration campaigns of artworks from the museum's collection or from other institutions live. It offers a unique glimpse behind the scenes of the restoration profession.
During the Bonnefanten Free Fridays openings, we provide additional information about the ongoing projects in the Open Studio and visitors are also allowed to enter the studio.

Zuyd Hogeschool
The Maastricht Institute of Arts will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2023 and will present a significant part of its collection of plaster casts at the Bonnefanten Museum: the Maastricht Academic Plaster Cast Collection. This rare collection was established with the founding of the City Drawing School in 1823 and now comprises approximately 500 pieces. Forty of these plaster casts have been treated by SRAL.

Part of a greater whole
SRAL is internationally recognized as a leading authority in conservation and heritage preservation. We stay at the forefront of the latest developments in the field and disseminate this knowledge both nationally and internationally. We take pride in our significant role as knowledge-partner within the Province of Limburg, while continually expanding our influence and sharing our expertise.

Visibility and connection
SRAL actively promotes the visibility of the conservation profession, driven by our strong belief in knowledge sharing. Our conservation studio on the first floor of the Bonnefanten Museum allows the public to observe restoration work up close. Additionally, we share online stories about our restorations, with a particular focus on Limburg, to help keep heritage alive.
SRAL is a member of various cultural and knowledge networks, where we contribute our expertise and collaborate with other institutions.
