Keith Haring en the Amsterdamse Koelhuis

Did you know that a world-famous Keith Haring artwork is on display outdoors? In the latest episode of the video series Space for Art, Véronique from QKunst Digital interviews Lydia Beerkens about the restoration of this impressive mural on the former Amsterdam Koelhuis.

Lydia Beerkens notes, "It's a graphic drawing, but up close, you can see the brushwork over the bricks and joints. Rain and wind have created unique streaks and smudges; these elements are all part of its character."

In 2021, QKunst managed the restoration of Keith Haring's mural on the Amsterdam Koelhuis. Originally painted in 1986 during his solo exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum, the mural was hidden behind a metal facade eight years later. Rediscovered in 2018, experts determined that restoration was crucial for its preservation. QKunst developed the restoration plan and oversaw the project. Since its restoration, the mural has been prominently displayed for three years, and both the building and the artwork have been recognized as a monument.
