PoCo Site Visit: Museum W in Weert
During the first site visit of the PoCo project, the team, including three specialists-in-training, visited Museum W in Weert. Five unique sculptures were carefully examined and discussed.

Traces of earlier polychromy
On November 25, the PoCo team visited Museum W in Weert. Lennart Willems, the museum’s curator, provided an insightful introduction and a guided tour. Afterward, the three specialists-in-training began a detailed examination of five sculptures using a range of techniques, including visual analysis with raking and UV light, as well as microscopy.
The initial findings were highly promising. Ausrine, Manon, and Rosanne uncovered intriguing traces of earlier polychromy, such as a delicate blue glaze on silver. The presence of experts in (religious) polychrome sculpture during the visit offered a valuable opportunity to gain deeper insights and expand their knowledge. Special thanks go to John van Cauteren and Martin Frankort for their invaluable contributions to this productive site visit.
This inspiring day underscored the importance of collaboration between museums, researchers, and emerging talent.
