Mist-Lining Workshop at the INP
From November 20–22, 2024, nearly 50 painting conservators gathered at the Institut National du Patrimoine (INP) in Aubervilliers, France, to participate in a specialized Mist-Lining Workshop. Developed at SRAL, Mist-Lining is a cutting-edge technique for the structural conservation of paintings on canvas.

Expertise and knowledge-sharing
The workshop was led by Kate Seymour and Joanna Strombek, both renowned experts from SRAL with extensive experience in Mist-Lining and teaching. Their expertise enabled participants to gain a comprehensive understanding of this non-invasive method. The program balanced in-depth theoretical discussions with hands-on practice, conducted in small groups to ensure individualized guidance and an optimal learning experience. Mist-Lining presents conservators with innovative solutions for treating canvas paintings, also for modern and contemporary works on canvas, where traditional methods may be less suitable. The technique’s non-invasive nature helps preserve the original integrity of artworks while providing durable support. The bilingual (English-French) workshop also benefited from the coordination of Alexia Soldano, a specialist in modern and contemporary art conservation. Her collaboration contributed to the success of this immersive training experience.

SRAL regularly organizes workshops.
