This unique retable depicting the Adoration of the Magi of Saxon origin was carved around 1515 and has painted side panels. It has been attributed to the Master of the Nenkersdorfer retable.
The retable was acquired in 1999 by the Bonnefantenmuseum Maastricht and was restored in 2010 and 2011 by the SRAL. For a major part the restoration was carried out in the public restoration studio located in the museum where vistors were able to follow the treatment. The restoration involved, besides the thorough examination of the structure and composition of the retable, consolidation of loose paint, removal of old varnish and discoloured overpaint, filling of old losses and retouching.
