Specialisation
One specialisation within SRAL is the research and restoration of polychrome sculptures and painted objects. This comprises, for example, medieval sculptures, Baroque church interiors, Neo-gothic altars, but also painted objects from (natural) history collections and museums of ethnology .
Stratigraphic en topographic research
On many wooden sculptures consecutive coloured paint layers have been preserved. In order to document the original and subsequent paintlayer structure, stratigraphic and topographic research is carried out. A treatment plan is drawn out in consultation with the owner, depending on the condition and function (eg. liturgical or as part of a museum collection) of the object.
We can treat objects such as retables and tombs, which are composed of multiple materials, in collaboration with other restoration disciplines.
